Gabbar gets lead role in Bhojpuri remake of Sholay
If Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag left you asking for more then there’s help on the way.
The 1975 super hit Sholay will now be remade in Bhojpuri. And donning the role of Gabbar Singh is Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishen in the film Gabbar Singh.
The story of the film revolves around Gabbar Singh and Thakur played by veteran actor Jitendra.
Other characters from the original like Jai, Veeru, Basanti and Radha are very much there. However, besides their names, almost everything has been changed.
“It will be asked by the nation that Gabbar will ask why you guys were abusing me till now. Hello! Come in my territory and then ask me what happened? Main Gabbar kyun bana? Then you will know that he was an army man Gobardhan Singh who was born in Bihar,” says Ravi.
The film is directed by a well-known television writer, Mahesh Pandey, who has written some of Balaji’s most popular serials.
And he is not worried that his film’s releasing right after the disastrous Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.
“Ram Gopal Varma remade Sholay and it was not made well. I have not made Sholay and I do not need to be scared. I have a story which is different from Sholay and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. Gabbar is the hero in the film, which is obviously very interesting. I have tried to narrate Ramayan through Ravan.
With a budget of 2.5 crore, it is one of the biggest Bhojpuri films made till date. But, will the Bhojpuri Gabbar Singh pull off what Ramu’s Babban could not?
You may find an answer for that only on October 19, when the film releases.
